I’m planning to join the navy but I’m not sure whats the limit on how many tattoos u could have?

I got like almost a bottom half sleeve of tattoos on my arm..none of them doesn’t have a bad meaning to it..matter of fact it’s almost like navy theme with a boat, ancur & a salior girl..

You can always get them lasered off. But I would take a picture first so you can show what they were.

Ask the recruiter and you will know the answer from the horses mouth.

my husbands recruiter said location matters most. like on the head/face/front of neck aren’t really acceptable. i think on your arm, you should be fine. my husbands recruiter actually has several tattoos on his arm…you are wearing long sleeves most of the time, in your uniform.
but, a recruiter can tell you for sure :)

I agree with the person above…I knew a guy that tried to go into the Army, but he had tattoos on his hands and fingers,so those are not acceptable, same as the front of your neck, face, head.

If you have a sleeve tattoo on your lower arm,

    That’s a disqualifier.

Basically, put on a short sleeve dress shirt over a regular Tee shirt.

You basically cannot have anything showing above the tee shirt on your neck, or face.

You cannot have anything showing on the exposed portions of your arm, that cover more than 25% of te surface area.

So if your wrist to elbow are covered in tattoo’s.

    that’s a disqualifier.

Any tatoos that depict gang affiliation, gayness or tatoos that say anarchy or the anarchy symbol will get you barred. They have specialist’s at boot that check that stuff out on your first processing day.

i doubt they’ll do anything about it. the military has become more tolerant over inked skin that they have been in the past. i know an Army Ranger what has tattoo’s going down his forearms. but in Uniform they’re not gonna see them.

"As in the past, any tattoo, body art or brand that is obscene, sexually explicit or advocates discrimination of any sort is prohibited."

    Also:

"The 2003 rule still holds that says the size of the tattoo on a sailor’s lower arm — the portion visible in uniform — can be no larger than the wearer’s hand, fingers closed."

Your tattoos have to be disclosed if they will be visible at all while wearing uniform. My husband is a Marine and I know a lot of other Marines that have sleeves or half sleeves since they have joined.

To above poster: Apparently the 25% rule has been changed. (See website below.)
