What is your initial reaction to the meaning of a skull tattoo?
Do they represent death or have some other meanings? What would it mean to get a skull tattoo along with a mystical image or an old school such as a swallow and skull? I asked a similar question and got great feedback, so I am just wondering what the meaning would be behind a swallow and skull tattoo? Any impressions? Thanks!
I would think that the Swallow and Skull would represent life and death.
This for me would mean friends and family of the past compared to the future.
I am not a judgmental person, but would see the person as a "tough" person who had this tattoo.
Good luck with your tattoo.

Most tattoos of a darker nature are used to keep people away or portray badness, when ,in truth the person wearing them is afraid.

There’s a long history of using skulls/skeletons, etc in art to remind people of their own mortality. It’s called memento mori when used in art.
Personally, I don’t think anything about what people’s tattoos mean – because most of the time they don’t mean anything except that that was just a picture they liked on the wall of the tattoo parlour. It’s a very personal choice, so I don’t pretend to know what other people’s tattoos mean.

Just my own first impression of skulls, in general, is that they signify death.
I have tattoos, and have no problem with one using their body as a canvas for artwork and personal expression, but when I see that someone has adorned themselves with a skull, I think that they must have at one time been focused, in some way, on death.
My brother designed what I call a "death tattoo" with a dead tree, a raven and a skull. I gave him my opinion, and so far he hasn’t put it on his body… Again, that’s just my opinion, and you were wondering what our "initial reaction" would be, so I thought I’d weigh in.

I have two. It signifies death in a way. Nothing I would comment on the internet about though.
